A segregação residencial em Itaberaí/GO : um estudo de caso do Bairro Itavilly

Abstract

This research deals with residential segregation in the Itavilly neighborhood, in Itaberaí/GO. This study was carried out based on a bibliographical survey on space, urban space, city, segregation and residential segregation. In this perspective, we dialogue with authors such as Carlos (1994), (2011), (2018); Correa (2000); Lefebvre (2001); Ribeiro (2005); Souza (2010); Spósito (2018), among others, that contributed significantly to understanding the structuring of space urban environment and how the actions of social agents contribute to the process of residential segregation. We then carried out documentary analysis, research into database of the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and Caixa Econômica Federal; fieldwork with the application of thirty questionnaires and three interviews with residents in the neighborhood. In this way, we analyzed how residential segregation manifests itself in the Itavilly neighborhood and how it affects the lives of residents in the neighborhood. This study shows that residential segregation is result of the housing policies implemented in Itaberaí, based on the construction of residences in an area devoid of urban services and equipment essential for the population.
