dc.description.abstract | The Handmaid's Tale is a book by the canadian writer Margaret Atwood, published in 1985. In 2017, a series based on the work was released, created by Bruce Miller. Atwood's book and the series, which shocked many readers and viewers, highlight a dystopian society in which women lose their most basic rights. Thus, in Gilead, which is governed by the influx of a religious puritanism, women are "classified", subalternized and ruled by men. In view of what was presented, our research is intended to verify the representation of the female characters in the book and in the series The Handmaid's Tale. Our study is based on research developed by Pone (2014), Hilário (2013), Fromm (2009), Mulvey (1977), and others. | eng |
