Abstract

This research endeavors to analyze the novel K. – Relato de uma Busca, by the contemporary Brazilian writer Bernardo Kucinski (2016), observing how it problematizes a recent period in the History of Brazil, the military dictatorship. The text listed as a corpus presents a plot that takes place during the military dictatorship, in which a professor at the Institute of Chemistry at USP, a political activist, disappeared along with her husband. Faced with the disappearance of the character, her father starts a search for her and for information about her whereabouts. This father, in the course of his search, cannot find either his daughter or even her body, he only finds various information about her whereabouts, but all of them lead nowhere. Blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, Kucinski (2016) thematizes and denounces, through literature, a fracture in the country's historical memory. The research is organized into divisions of three chapters that go through theoretical foundations that deal with memory, testimony, testimonial literature, military dictatorship in Brazil, funeral rituals of Judaism and the mourning process, relating to the plot of the analyzed work.
