Doença do disco intervertebral cervical em cão: relato de caso

Abstract

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a very common degenerative disease in the routine of small animals, being one of the main diseases that affect the spine of dogs. It can be classified into Hansen type I or chondroid, in which the extrusion of the nucleus pulposus causes acute pain in the spinal cord, and Hansen type II or fibroid, where the protrusion of the annulus fibrosus occurs in a chronic way directly linked to the patient's age. Cervical discopathies have the main clinical sign of intense pain and kyphotic position with the head positioned downwards. The diagnosis is made through the clinical symptoms that the animal presents in conjunction with genetic and imaging tests, such as radiography and computed tomography. The most recommended treatment is emergency through ventral slit techniques (ventral slot), dorsal laminectomy or hemilaminectomy. The following work aims to clarify the etiopathogenesis of cervical IVDD in a Basset Hound dog, its diagnosis and treatment rescued through the ventral slot technique.
