Abstract

The present research work aims to investigate the mathematical knowledge present in the skill of a group of seamstresses in the Colônia de Lixa District. This is a participatory qualitative research, based on the following investigative instruments: bibliographical review, interview, participant observation, researcher's field diary and photographs As a theoretical contribution on sewing, Laxez was used about its origin and evolution story. For the discussion on ethnomathematics, works by Ubiratan D'Ambrana were used. It is important to highlight the history of the District of Colonia de Lixi as it is a district that originated from German families who came to the State of Goiás with the intention of improving their lives financially. And through these investigations we came to the conclusion that there is indeed mathematics involved in sewing, from the beginning to the end of a piece of clothing, we arrived at this statement through reading and research so that it was possible to reach this conclusion Assum, starting from the knowledge traditions of the families that started to have their sustenance through sewing, we conclude with the research that research can contribute to the appreciation of the knowledge of the traditional culture of this group and contribute to the construction of mathematical knowledge.
