A segregação na Cidade de Goiás : um estudo sobre o Setor Papyrus

Abstract

This research aims to address the process of urban segregation in the city of Goiás, for this purpose, part of the city's urban space had been demystified and put under analysis. In order to achieve this objective, it is necessary to contextualize the production, the development and organization of the space under study, aiming to understand the origin, stories and struggles of the residents, the entire dynamics of the space in question, the relationships that are established there, and get to know everyday life, dreams and expectations for a better life for residents. Therefore, the methods used to carry out this fieldwork, relies on the use of questionnaires, interviews and observations, which allows analyze the city's urban landscape to understand its dynamics, relationships commercials and their history, as these are responsible for the shapes and movements of space, Cardoso (2003, p. 16) explains that “urban space is understood as a transformation of social, economic and cultural history, due to the relationships that surround them. Man has a transformative action in space, as he organizes it, according to his needs.” After getting to know the urban landscape of the City of Goiás, you can notify the existence of urban segregation, which is found in different neighborhoods and sectors of the city such as Alto Santana, Goiás II, the residential Tempo Novo, Vila Lions and the Papyrus sector, the latter was chosen for analysis in order to identify the characteristics of a segregated space. For this purpose, the research seeks to understand the formation process of the sector Papyrus and the reason for its creation. The first visible feature of a segregated space is in its location, the Papyrus Sector is positioned in the southeast portion of the City of Goiás, on the banks of BR-070 at the exit to Goiânia on the left side of the highway, far from the urban center of the city, this is justified by the price of land being cheaper, and the low-income people own their own home, as Santos (1996, p. 82) puts it, when assert that “the value of man, as well as the value of capital in all its forms, depends on its location in space.” Another very important characteristic of a space segregated is the cluster of people of the same social level in a given space, thus, Vilhaça (2001, p.142) with a broader characterization of segregation, in explains that “segregation is a process whereby different classes or layers social trends tend to be increasingly concentrated in different general regions or sets of neighborhoods of the metropolis”. Therefore, it was notified that the aforementioned sector is part of one of the government programs that aim to solve the housing problem in Brazil. The sector Papyrus is a housing complex created to meet the growing demand of urbanization of the city of Goiás, aiming to offer housing for people who do not have the mobility of choose your place of residence. And it is important to communicate the feelings of residents of this sector, if they are satisfied and happy with the space they occupy.
