Rosa Egipciaca - de santa a charlatã: análise da vida de uma escrava no século XVIII

Abstract

The present work presents the use of Literature as a source for research in History, being used by historians, highlighting the cultural and social elements of human relations. It is a source that allows the historian to apprehend elements and / or characteristics of a particular socio-cultural universe in a broad way, being a significant resource in the writing process of History. The research analyzes the life of a black and African woman in colonial Brazil, Rosa Egipiciaca, who led a life somewhat unusual for the time in which she lived: slave, prostitute, saint; venerated by blacks, whites, members of the Catholic Church. The objective of the work is to understand the life of Rose Mary Egípciaca da Vera Cruz and the social context in which it lived. It is approached a characterization of Brazil from the colonial period still dependent on Portugal. The life of Rose Egipcíaca is analyzed under the view of the writers Luiz Mott and Heloisa Maranhão: A Saint African in Brazil, highlighting important aspects of her life. The methodology used the methodology used is descriptive, where it was chosen to choose the bibliographic research responding to the proposed objectives.
