VARRIDOS DO SERTÃO: Memórias, (res) Sentimentos e Humilhação (1980)

Abstract

The choice of the theme Swept from the Sertão: Memories, (re) Feelings and Humiliation (1980) was made at the suggestion of the supervising professor Marilena Julimar Fernandes, who presented the children's literature book “Expulsos do Campo” by Alcides J.R da Silva, published in 1986 as a suggested source. When reading the book, it was clear that this would be an important topic, as it would understand the reality of many people who went through/are going through the same problem portrayed by the author. The book tells the story of a family who lived in the countryside and had to move to the city after being sent away from the farm where they worked. Upon arriving in the city of Juraci, the boy and his father Vicente had to adapt to the new environment, enduring the longing for the countryside, the pain of having lost Juraci's mother Cida, the memories of a calm place to live, the longing for fishing, for playing, for having friends around to live in a place – a city – that is unknown, strange and different. In the city, as well as in the countryside, the family faced unemployment and Mr. Vicente became ill due to missing the countryside and the lack of employment. For this reason, Juraci often faced ridicule from his classmates, as he was unable to look well-groomed for school. Despite the difficulties Juraci continues to fight and finds a job at a vegetable market and, over time, acquires his own stall. Afterwards, Mr. Vicente recovers and, together, they adapt to the city and try to fit into the urban environment. This reality experienced in the city led to feelings of humiliation, failure, shame, etc. and, based on these considerations, the proposed problem for the work will be: - What feelings can be perceived in the daily life of a family expelled from the countryside based on the literary work Expulsos do Campo by Alcides R. J. da Silva (1986)? And the objectives will be: to discuss the feelings that surround man when leaving the countryside towards the city based on the literary work Expulsos do campo by Alcides J.R..da Silva, published in 1986; analyze the difficulties faced by rural people when moving to the city; understand the feelings of people who leave the countryside to adapt to the city. After these considerations, the work will be organized into two chapters. The first will aim to understand the relationship between the field and the literary work: “Expulsos de campo” by the author Alcides R. J. da Silva, published in 1986. In the second, the concepts of memories, (re)feelings and humiliation will be discussed. and how such feelings are perceived in the literary work.
