Mãe Maria, Senhora D’Abadia, “Olha Itaberaí, este povo que vive junto a ti” : um estudo sobre cultura e catolicismo popular na festa da Padroeira de Itaberaí (1960 – 2011)

Abstract

The present study aimed to present the changes/permanences that occurred at the party in praise of Our Lady of Abbey, Patroness of the Municipality of Itaberaí-GO, influenced by the politics and economy of the municipality, the latter being based on activities linked to agriculture, between the years 1960 and 2011. The manifestations of popular Catholicism and how it reveals the cultural aspects of the people Itaberino, during the festivities of the aforementioned saint. To this end, a brief (re)construction was carried out of the city's history, seeking to explain the municipal administrations that most interfered in the party, and how the installation of the SuperFrango agribusiness changed the dynamics of the city and the party. An attempt was made to highlight the changes through which the party passed and its manifestations through the analysis of iconographic elements. approached also, the similarities and singularities of these festivities, in light of power relations inherent to them, in addition to discussing the female presence in the organization of “August festival”, as it is known in the region
